ANKI BAUER
SHORT SUMMARYOriginally from Sweden. AFS Foreign Exchange Student in Stockton, Illinois 1974-75, visiting over the years and came back when offered to start courses about horses at Highland Community College in Freeport, Illinois 2009.
Enjoys all kinds of animals. Experience with horses, see below, and dogs, cats and cows.
Riding in all forms has always been a very popular recreation and sport in Sweden. On the outskirts of large cities and in the countryside there are a large number of riding schools, providing the opportunity to ride and learn about horses. Students will gain knowledge in horse handling, riding and caring for the horse. More experienced riders have the opportunity to ride in the woods and to learn showjumping and dressage. Riding schools have classes spanning from age 7 to far beyond retirement and there are typically 10 – 15 people per class.
"My horse experience comes from several riding schools, trainers, breeders and practical work with privately owned horses (besides the school horses at the riding schools) of different breeds, sizes and disciplines ever since I was about seven years old... I was riding Belgians bareback in the woods by our family farm in rural Sweden and going to riding lessons on Saturdays with my best friend. I would spend many vacations with my grandma in southern Sweden where ponies would take me galopping over never ending fields; feeling like the luckiest girl on earth."
